ON HOW TO GROW AN IDEA

This project involved a deep reading of my chosen text and an ideation period which revolved around connecting the typesetting of the book to relate to the content. With spot color risograph images, laser printed text and b/w imagery, the book was a challenge to produce.

After introductory projects that established an understanding of the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of designing patterns and placement for digitally printed fabrics, I proposed an independent project.

This self-directed study entailed self-guided research and exploration through experimentation with traditional studio practices; drawing, painting, collage, photography. Concepts were further developed through experimentation on Photoshop.

This project involved me taking on many roles:  interviewer, journalist, editor, copywriter, and designer. Following interviews with graphic designers Elizabeth Goodspeed (founder of the Casual Archivist) and Erica Dorn (two-time Wes Anderson collaborator), I was tasked with producing and editing copy content and designing a cohesive editorial system.






MILLERKNOLL WORKPLACE RESEARCH LIBRARY REBRAND

Following a period of research looking into brand history and philosophy, the goal of this project was to create a subbrand which remained separate from MillerKnoll but felt coordinated with the main brand. The goal of this rebrand’s identity was to remain flexible while also feeling cohesive.

Pulling from the posthuman philosophy that seeks to explore the world 
from the perspective of non-human organisms, this installation looks to investigate firefly communication through and interactive installation and subsequent branding.

After identifying noise and soundscape composition as something which interested me, I developed two short motion pieces which attempted to explore these topics. This project involved a good deal of research regarding sound as a medium as well as establishing a concrete visual aesthetic .

MAPPING THE PROVIDENCE ARCADE

Following an intensive observation period of the oldest arcade in the US, this project sought to explore various modes of graphic representation. Recorded charcoal rubbings, foot traffic, and auditory data are combined in a cohesive package.

This project was the culmination of a Silkscreen printing workshop. Attempting to use a wide range of techniques learned in class, I explored photographic printing as well as metallic finish ink.

This poster was the result of modeling, material, and lighting explorations in Cinema 4D. With the 3-D renders modeled in the program, I then composited them, inserted them into an Indesign document, and finished with color correction in Photoshop.

The City of Providence’s Open Data Portal as a starting point for this project, I created a brand guide which provided all the information required to start a public awareness campaign.
